The Greek version of yule log!

Kormos literally means “log” in greek, (known as Mosaico as well) is actually none other than the Greek version of yule log! Made with chocolate and biscuits, it is a traditional Christmas dessert even in Greece! Certainly belonging to my list of all-time classics, I recall my mommy and grandma making and serving this ice-cold treat ever since I was a little kid, and my impatience to taste it while waiting for it to chill!

Ingredients:

  • 200 gr plant based butter (room temp)
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup icing sugar
  • 1/2 cup cacao
  • 150gr candied fruit diced
  • 1 cup walnuts crashed
  • 400gr plain biscuits
  • 1 shot of fruity liquer
  • icing sugar or coconut shaving for dusting

Equipment:

  • Handheld mixer
  • Plastic wrap
  • Long chopping board

Method:

  1. Beat the butter using a handheld mixer until soft and fluffy
  2. Add the icing sugar, cacao and beat until well mixed, add the shot of liquer
  3. Add the candied fruit and walnuts. Mix with a spatular and set aside
  4. In a separate bowl, break the biscuits with your hands, add the milk and stir
  5. Add the butter mixture you made earlier and thoroughly knead together with your hands
  6. Take a long chopping board and place a large square of plastic wrap on top. Place the mixture onto the plastic wrap in a log form. Roll and wrap the mixture to create a nice log shape and place into the fridge to chill
  7. Remove from the fridge when firm and cool. Remove the plastic wrap and dust with the icing sugar or coconut shavings
Slice and serve with cream and nuts. Kali orexi !
