1. Avoid the restaurants who have a friendly guy outside inviting you in. They are usually very touristic and you will not have a true local eating experience of Athens.
  2. Do not trust Google suggestions without carefully reading the reviews, reading other people’s experience may be very useful.
  3. If you use Google, take a careful look at the pictures. A picture is worth a thousand words, and there is no better way to decide if the place suits your taste than looking the photos of Greek food, other visitors have taken.
  4. Do not prefer the reception or the concierge of your hotel for suggestions. They often cooperate with certain restaurants by taking a commission, so they are not entirely trustworthy, you better ask a local in grocery shop, that will be possibly a better idea.
  5. On the other hand, you can definitely trust a famous chef’s opinion, such as Gordon Ramsey,  and his articles about good Greek restaurants he has encountered in Greece.
  6. By booking an Athens food tour, you get a lot of recommendations and directions by the first day. You will also visit different places (consider it scouting the area) that you can visit later by yourself.
  7. Be aware your personal belongings, avoid back packs, prefer to use a crossed bag especially around the three main squares of Athens, Omonia, Monastiraki and Syntagma!
  8. Use über, taxi beat or book your transfer online, the taxi driver cheat on tourists very often.
